To kick off Women’s History Month, New Jersey towns, nonprofits, businesses and professional groups will hold “International Women’s Day,” events to celebrate this global holiday on Friday.
Over a century ago, the first International Women’s Day (IWD) was commemorated with a gathering in March 1911, which was supported by more than a million people.
Today, the globally recognized holiday celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality, according to the IWD’s website.
This year’s campaign theme is “Inspire Inclusion,” which emphasizes the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society. The campaign theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality.
It calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected. Inspire Inclusion encourages everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalized communities, according to the IWD’s website.
