Why she was nominated:
She is my rock. She has a lot on her plate but she never complains. She has three children. Her youngest has cerebral palsy and needs her attention 24/7. She and her husband run their own business. My sister works from home or she is in the office five times maybe six times a week. When I tell her that I can’t do something, she’s the one who is there pushing me and telling me to never give up. – Diane Montoya.
In her own words:
Why do you think you were nominated to the Daily Press Most Inspiring Women 2009?
I would like to think that I was nominated for my strength that I have shown over the years. I am a successful businesswoman and a mother of three beautiful children, one of whom has many disabilities and needs full time care. Being that I have a business I have to schedule my day around the needs of my daughter. I accomplish this by working at home and taking her to work with me. I also try my hardest to be the best person that I can be every day.
What activities/organizations are you involved in and why?
The only organization (Association) that I am currently involved in would be The Southern California Minority Business Council. My company holds a certificate of membership and it is used to help the business to strive in the construction industry.
How do you think you make a difference?
I would like to feel that I make a difference to mothers with children who are disabled/ challenged. We dedicate our lives to our children, we deal with so many up and downs with our little angles so all that I can offer is hope for them; hope that they can accomplish all that they can and the hope that we can succeed as business women in today’s world.
If you could share something with the public, what would that be?
When you become a mother to a child with disabilities your whole world changes, and you enter into a world of doctors, appointments, medication and disappointments. Your dream of seeing your child have a normal life disappears before your eyes and something inside you seems to die. I have been through a lot with my daughter, Ashlynn, and it has not been easy. But I have learned to not look at the things that she can’t do, but instead cherish the wonderful little things she can do. She has gone through a 9-hour brain surgery, but the results have been amazing. She is quadriplegic and depends totally on me for everything. Seeing her fight everyday has made me a better person and makes me stronger in everything I do, including my business. My husband and I have a business and I am blessed that I can take her to work with me and continue to fulfill our dreams.

I consider myself to be just an average person and I would never put myself on a peddle stool from others, however I am greatly honored to be nominated as an inspiration to women. I am proud of all of my accomplishments and I feel confident that women can reach their dreams. I would also like to thank everyone who voted for me as an inspiration I am deeply touched.
