Huge congrats to the Washington Capitals for winning a 2024 NHL Stanley Award in the category of Social Impact and Growth Initiatives for their incredible ALL CAPS ALL HER initiative! This award recognizes the Caps’ dedication to growing the game of hockey by providing amazing opportunities for women and girls in the DMV.
Launched in 2021, ALL CAPS ALL HER is all about breaking down barriers for women in hockey. Whether you’re a young girl curious about stepping onto the ice for the first time, a seasoned player looking to up your game, or a woman who loves hockey but maybe doesn’t play – there’s a place for you! The program offers a variety of events and programs throughout the year, including:
- On-ice clinics: From Learn to Play programs for girls of all ages to Adult Learn to Play and even High School Training Camps, there’s something for every skill level.
- Off-ice opportunities: Leadership workshops, business development and networking events, and even recognizing influential women who are making a difference in hockey.

Over 2,000 women and girls have been introduced to hockey thanks to ACAH programs, with over 600 taking their first steps on the ice this past season alone! But it goes beyond introductory programs. Female hockey participation in the D.C. region has grown a whopping 46% in the past decade! This award is a well-deserved recognition of the program’s long-term impact.
The Capitals are committed to keeping the momentum going. Mark your calendars for September 14th because the second annual DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day is happening! This is a fantastic opportunity to introduce girls between 4 and 9 to the joys of hockey.
Whether you’re a parent looking for ways to get your daughter involved in sports, a woman who wants to be part of a supportive hockey community, or just a Caps fan who wants to celebrate a fantastic initiative, ALL CAPS ALL HER has something for you! Let’s keep growing the game of hockey together and celebrate the amazing women who are making a difference!
