Entrepreneurship: 30 Women Entrepreneurs Get Climate Motivation Awards | Trichy News

Trichy: Thirty women entrepreneurs from various parts of the state were presented with climate entrepreneurs motivation awards by the Tiruchirappalli Regional Engineering College – Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (Trec-Step) on Saturday, in recognition of their business ventures promoting environmental sustainability. Nigar Shaji, project director of the Aditya-L1 solar mission, Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), who was the chief guest, gave away the awards to the 30 women hailing from Trichy, Pudukottai, The Nilgiris, Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts. Nigar was also awarded the ‘Eve of Excellence’ award for her contribution to the Indian solar space mission. Addressing the women entrepreneurs, the Isro scientist said, “Environment-friendly products and technologies are needed to protect our natural resources and leave a clean planet for our next generation. Women must identify their talents and utilise the opportunities for bringing a societal change.” The European Union-funded gender-enabling network of innovation and entrepreneurship (Genie) project has signed 464 MoUs in eight states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and West Bengal. R M P Jawahar, executive director of Trec-Step said that the centre would continue to extend the incubation support and guide the women entrepreneurs in their challenging period. Supported by the EU, Trec-Step has been implementing Genie) civil society organisations (CSOs) for climate ventures. Entrepreneurs involved in producing value-added products from millet and banana fibre, sanitary hygiene and environment-friendly products in sustainable areas were provided with capacity development training. Networking and marketing support were also provided to the entrepreneurs to make their products commercially successful.
