“I am a victim of cervical cancer; my wife died a year ago from the disease,” said 49-year-old Mallam Mujtabba Adams, one of the religious focal persons in Kano. Since 2004, Mujtabba has been part of a religious focal group raising awareness about the importance of immunisation and vaccines in Fagge, a community in Kano State.

Mujtabba recalls that his wife’s pregnancy appeared normal until delivery when doctors noticed unusual bleeding. They requested permission to perform surgery, which he granted. Tragically, his wife died six hours later after they had to remove her womb.
