International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8, highlights issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.” The focus is on how technology and education in the digital age can empower women and girls worldwide.
Experts from the fields of technology and innovation and gender equality activists will convene to discuss improving access to digital tools and bridging the digital skills gap to ensure equal opportunities for all.
Our Mission
As the UN system’s learning and knowledge institution, UNSSC provides training, learning, and capacity-building support to UN staff and partner organizations worldwide. Our focus is on sustainable development, peace and security, leadership and management, including gender equality and women’s empowerment. The College offers learning programmes that prioritize the role of innovation and technology, with modules that advance gender equality and empower women and girls. Our courses have brought together inspiring women in the fields of innovation and technology.
Our Story
Since our establishment in 2002, UNSSC has empowered thousands of women through our learning programs, enabling them to do their jobs more effectively, advance their careers, and enhance their contribution to UN priorities. The shift to online learning in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in even more women taking UNSSC courses.
Last year, the College reflected a gender component into 48 out of 207 courses to ensure that participants in our learning programmes gain a deeper understanding of gender equality and the empowerment of women. We continually publish content featuring gender perspectives, demonstrating our commitment to gender equality beyond just 8 March.
