10 motivational summer sales strategies: Tips for Noobs

[ad_1]

Set clear goals: Things move slower in the summer as more folks are on vacation and it’s so darn hot. Instead of giving in to the old sales excuse of “nobody buys in the summer,” let’s acknowledge that it is different and create new systems to win anyway. Since the pace is slower, we will likely get less done but let’s decide what we will get done.

  2. Stay positive: Celebrate your wins and learn from your setbacks, focusing on the opportunities rather than dwelling on the obstacles. Listen to your favorite motivational speaker for a few minutes every morning. Mine is Zig Ziglar and you can listen for free on most podcast apps.
  3. Celebrate wins: Recognizing your achievements will boost your motivation and keep you on track toward your larger goals. Whether it’s closing a deal, exceeding a target or receiving positive feedback from a customer, take the time to celebrate these victories and use them as fuel for continued success.
  4. Take breaks: Give yourself permission to recharge. It’s important to take regular breaks during the summer to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. A refreshed mind and body will increase your productivity and motivation when you return to work.
  5. Find inspiration: Whether through motivational books, podcasts or TED talks, immerse yourself in positive and uplifting messages. Surrounding yourself with such content can help fuel your motivation and keep you inspired throughout the summer season. Winners read. A good way to connect with your customers is to ask them for book ideas for you to read on your holiday.
  6. Stay engaged: Short handwritten notes, texts or even emails are good in summer to stay connected and to let customers know you are available if needed, and that you are looking to get on the calendar in September to review year-end planning or whatever is appropriate in your world.
  7. Embrace challenges: View challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks. Find creative ways to talk with your clients during the summer. It requires more work and planning, but when you do get through, think of how few other sales folks they would have been talking to.
  8. Stay organized: A clutter-free environment and a well-structured schedule will reduce stress and help you stay motivated and focused on your sales objectives. The best reps are organized — use this extra time to make sure you are, too.
  9. Seek support: Surround yourself with a supportive network of colleagues, mentors or sales groups. Share your challenges, seek advice and draw inspiration from others who understand the sales profession. This is a good time of year to get a peer group together, as they will likely be less busy.
  10. Reward yourself: Create a system of rewards for achieving your sales targets. Treat yourself to something you enjoy, like relaxing. In the summer I recommend reps create a specific to-do list every day and to knock it out as soon as possible. When complete, reward yourself with some guilt-free goofing off — take time to relax, read or maybe have too many tomato sandwiches and nap!
