Women dress in locally-made African prints for women’s day
Women have today (Thursday) turned up in large numbers at The Kenyatta International Conference Center to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The women, dressed in locally-made African prints, have come from various parts of Nairobi and neighbouring counties.
Women are still waiting outside KICC to be let in.
The women started arriving at KICC as early as 6:00 am.
This year’s celebrations are the first physical IWD celebrations to be held under the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, and Affirmative Action.
International Women’s Day is a global day that is commemorated every year on March 8, although this year’s dates have been conflicting, as others are celebrating early on March 2.
The day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also making a call to action for strengthening gender equality and accelerating women’s empowerment.
It celebrates women’s contributions to society, raises awareness about the fight for gender parity, and inspires support for organizations that help women globally.
President William Samoei Ruto is expected to preside over the event, alongside Gender CS Aisha Jumwa.
