Oprah Winfrey got a full scholarship to Tennessee State University but left to pursue a career in broadcasting and got her degree in 1986. At age 19 i.e. 1973 she became a news anchor for the local CBS television station, following that in 1976 she was a reporter and co-anchor for the ABC news affiliate in Baltimore, Maryland. After a year she became cohost of the Baltimore morning show ‘People Are Talking’.
Winfrey climbed new heights in her talk show and 1984 she moved to Chicago to host a talk show named ‘AM Chicago’. This program became a huge success, and in 1985 it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show. The program eventually became the highest-rated television talk show in the United States and earned several Emmy Awards.
Apart from Oprah Winfrey’s journalism career she event added feathers to her hat by acting in The Color Purple (1985), The Women of Brewster Place (1989), Toni Morrison’s Beloved (1998), Before Women Had Wings (1997), The Butler (2013), Selma (2014), The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (2017) and A Wrinkle in Time (2018).
