Maximum Women Participation In R-Day Parade At Kartavya Path
Republic Day, observed on January 26, commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, symbolising India’s shift to a sovereign republic. The focal point of the festivities is the impressive parade at Kartavya Path/India Gate in New Delhi. In honour of the upcoming 75th Republic Day, the parade will prominently feature contingents comprising solely women from the defense forces, showcasing the empowerment of women.
Additionally, the parade will showcase diverse state and Union Territory tableaux, highlighting their culture, history, and achievements. The event will culminate with a spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force, featuring the latest fighter jets and helicopters.

The 75th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2024, will center around the themes of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka’ (India – Mother of Democracy).
Republic Day parade will have women contingents
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on January 19, 2024, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane stated that the upcoming parade will have a women-centric focus. Women marching contingents will constitute a significant portion of the parade, while the tableaux representing States/Union Territories and Central Ministries/Organisations will highlight the country’s rich cultural diversity, unity, and progress. Emphasising that these themes align with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of India as the ‘mother of democracy,’ he reiterated the significance of the chosen themes.
Performance featuring 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments
Breaking from tradition, the Republic Day parade will commence with a groundbreaking performance featuring 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments such as Sankh, Naadswaram, and Nagada. This marks a departure from previous years when military bands were responsible for this segment of the parade.
Tri-service women contingent
The parade will feature a historic moment with the inaugural participation of a tri-service women contingent comprising 144 personnel, with 48 individuals from each service. Furthermore, the contingents from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will include all-women units, as highlighted by the defense secretary.
A noteworthy incident captured on camera involves a CISF woman contingent playing a popular Bollywood song of Iranian origin, ‘Jamal Jamaloo,’ from the movie Animal.
All-women contingent of Delhi Police to participate in a parade
In a move aimed at promoting gender equality and women empowerment, the Delhi Police will feature an all-women contingent marching down Kartavya Path during the 75th Republic Day parade on January 26.
IAF’s Women Agniveer Vayu to march on Republic Day parade
This year, women Agniveer Vayu soldiers will be part of the Indian Air Force contingent in the Republic Day parade, as confirmed by an Indian Air Force official on Monday. Additionally, the parade will feature two all-women contingents from the defense forces.
One of the contingents, comprising 144 personnel, will exclusively consist of women soldiers, with 60 from the Army and the remainder from the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, as informed by defense officials. This contingent will include women Agniveer soldiers from the Navy and Air Force.
All-women contingent of Armed Forces Medical Services
Another all-women contingent will represent the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, featuring nurses from the military nursing services, led by women doctors during the parade.
Promoting Nari Shakti, or empowering women in the defense forces, has been a focal point of the Narendra Modi-led government. The Indian Air Force has allowed women to serve as fighter pilots, the Navy has appointed a lady officer to command a warship for the first time, and the Indian Army has opened up opportunities for women officers and soldiers in various arms and services. Efforts are also underway to explore the inclusion of women in other remaining arms and branches.
